March 2005

March 4 - 6, Friday - Sunday, Introduction to Meridian Yoga, Kripalu Yoga Center, Lenox, MA  1-800-741-7353  Starts at $315 including tuition, room, and meals. The goal of Meridian Yoga is to activate and balance the meridian and nadi energy pathways of the body, enhancing the free flow of chi/prana (life force) in our body, mind, and soul, which increases our physical health and sense of well being. A modern stretching technique called resistance stretching and work with acupuncture meridians through finger pressure (Shiatsu) will be taught, along with breathing exercises (pranayama) and flow yoga. Students will also learn poses and partner assists for each of the 14 meridians.

March 18 - 20, Friday-Sunday, Yoga of Energy Flow: Kali Ray TriYoga, Meridian Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga, Toskana Therme/Bad Sulza, Germany (about 3 hours south of Berlin).
This weekend workshop at the beautiful and relaxing hot springs of historic Bad Sulsa begins Friday at 15.00 Uhr, and ends Sunday at 13.00 Uhr. The program will consist of early morning pranayama practice before breakfast, a morning session of TriYoga for 3 hours, and an afternoon session of Meridian Yoga for 3 hours. In the evening, relaxation and fun in the wonderful healing waters. The cost is 150 Euro for the workshop. The room cost per day is 45 Euro for a double room, or 55 Euro for a single. The room cost includes all the food and entrance to the mineral baths.

March 21 - 25, Monday - Friday, Meridian Yoga Training, Toskana Therme/Bad Sulza, Germany (about 3 hours south of Berlin).
This is a week-long training in Meridian Yoga, with an emphasis on hands-on partner work and the therapeutic applications of Meridian Yoga for classes and private sessions. Daniel will teach some Kali Ray TriYoga and Kundalini Yoga, but Meridian Yoga will be the main focus. Each day will begin with a pranayama practice before breakfast, a 3 hour session before lunch, and a 3 hour session in the afternoon. In the evening, relaxation and fun in the wonderful healing waters of the Toskana Therme. The cost is 400 Euro for the training. The room cost per day is 45 Euro for a double room, or 55 Euro for a single. The room cost includes all the food and entrance to the mineral baths.
The training will begin Monday morning, so you may wish to come Sunday night. The training will end Friday at 13.00 Uhr.

This three hour workshop will be equal parts Kali Ray TriYoga Salutation Flows and Level One Pranayama Practices. The Salutation Flows are a complete asana practice. They open and warm up the whole body preparing it for pranayama and meditation. We will explore Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Salutation Flows. The TriYoga Pranayama Practices include kapalabhati, surya-chandra, agnisara dhauti, kumbaka, bandhas (mula, uddiyana, and jalandhara), nada pasyanti (sound light visualization) and meditation. These pranayama practices are carefully sequenced to increase and balance the flow of pranic energy throughout our body-mind. This flow of energy is the flow of life itself, connecting us to to stillness, to strength, and to our true nature which is pure presence in the here and now.

This three hour workshop will be equal parts Kali Ray TriYoga Water 108 Flow and Level Two Pranayama Practices.
Water 108 is a TriYoga series which consists of 108 movements from Level 2. Level 2/Water TriYoga Flows are for the second chakra, and promote the water element, for fluidity, lightness, and ease of motion.

This workshop at the wonderful Kripalu Center in the Berkshires begins Sunday the 12th at 7:30pm, and ends Friday the 17th at noon. The program will consist of an optional early morning pranayama practice before breakfast, a morning session of Meridian Yoga for 3 - 3 1/2 hours, and an afternoon session for 3 - 3 1/2 hours. On a couple of the evenings, depending on group interest, optional Meridian Yoga or shiatsu practice sessions will be offered. Or after dinner, there will be plenty of opportunities for relaxation and fun, including use of the hot tubs and sauna, and evening music and entertainment programs. Star Island is a beautiful, small island 10 miles off the New Hampshire coast -- wonderful fresh air, and soothing sounds of the ocean in full supply. The one hour ferry ride departs from Portsmouth, NH on Friday afternoon and returns Sunday afternoon. We will stay in a grand hotel, built over a hundred years ago. The accommodations are very simple; the ferry ride and all the food and yoga is included in the price. Meridian Yoga Training
Our health is dependent on the free flow of chi or prana (energy/universal life force) in our mind, body and soul. The goal of Meridian Yoga is to activate and balance the meridian and nadi energy pathways of the body, fostering physical health and ease of motion, mental peace and joy, and a feeling of connection with the creative infinite. This in-depth training will emphasize hands-on partner work and the therapeutic applications of Meridian Yoga for classes and private sessions. Training manual and handouts included.
In this 50 hour certification you'll learn:
· Yoga poses and partner assists for each of the 14 meridians, improving the health and functioning of the associated organs
· PNF Resistance Stretching, a modern stretching method, scientifically proven to be the most efficient and safest way to elongate muscles and increase range of motion
· Shiatsu techniques (work with acupuncture meridians using finger pressure) that complement the partner-assisted stretches, increasing the circulation of chi
· Pranayama (breathing exercises) to contact and activate prana
· Kali Ray TriYoga Flows, "the art of yoga flow" uniting graceful and circular movements with moving and sustained postures, and the rhythmic breath
· How to apply Meridian Yoga techniques in personal training and private yoga therapy sessions

     In this workshop we will explore some of the higher yogic practices that establish links between annamaya kosha, the physical body, manomaya kosha, the mental body, and pranayama kosha, the energy body. These practices include pranayama, mudra, bandhas, and meditation. Pranayama works with the breath; mudra, with attitude and mental focus, which can include hand gestures; bandhas, with physical locks in the body that contain and direct prana energies; and meditation, with bringing the mind to stillness and peace. All these techniques increase and balance the flow of pranic energy throughout our body-mind. This flow of energy is the flow of life itself, connecting us to to stillness, to strength, and to our true nature which is pure presence in the here and now.
     We will begin with vinyasa-flow yoga in the Kali Ray TriYoga style, to open the nadis and warm up the body. Then we will experience and learn Level 1 - Level 2 TriYoga pranayama sequences, which are complete, step by step practices to open the granthis, or psychic knots. In doing so we will study jalandhara, moola, and uddiyana bandhas, and many classical ways to work with the breathing, using the four elements of pooraka (inhalation), rechaka (exhalation), antar kumbhaka (internal breath retention), and bahir kumbhaka (external breath retention). We will finish with nada pasyanti (sound light visualization), and meditation.
     If most of your yoga practice so far has been asana based studies, this workshop will round out your practice, and help you to achieve far deeper states of meditation and connection with the infinity of creation.

Meridian Yoga:
Opening the Energetic Pathways

Meridian Yoga works to systematically activate and balance energy in the fourteen major meridians-- or energy pathways-- of Oriental medicine fostering physical health and ease of motion, mental peace and joy, and a feeling of connection with the creative infinite. Meridian Yoga includes poses and partner assists to open and balance each of the 14 meridians, improving the health and functioning of the associated organs; PNF/Resistance Stretching, a modern stretching method, scientifically proven to be the most efficient and safest way to elongate muscles and increase range of motion; Shiatsu techniques (work with acupuncture meridians using finger pressure) that complement the partner-assisted stretches, increasing the circulation of chi energy; and breathing exercises (pranayama) to contact and activate prana.

Partner Yoga
Using gentle pressure, body weight, and skillful touch, we will work one on one to maximize our stretching and perfect our alignment in classical yoga postures. A modern stretching technique called resistance stretching and some basic massage techniques will be taught. Feel free to attend alone or with a partner.
